ACGA spoke at the panel on Institutional Investors and Stewardship at a conference organized jointly by OECD–SMU in Singapore

On 7 July, Helena Fung, ACGA Head of Research and Advocacy, spoke on a panel on Institutional Investors and Stewardship at a conference organized jointly by OECD–SMU in Singapore on The Future of Capital Markets: Global and Asian Perspectives. The event marked the launch of both the SMU Singapore Capital Markets Initiative and the OECD Asia Capital Markets Report 2026. The panel, Institutional Investors and Stewardship, discussed the persistent challenge of limited access to boards and independent directors, identified by both the ACGA Stewardship Report and the OECD Asia Capital Markets Report as a key obstacle to effective stewardship and ranked by institutional investors in a recent OECD survey as the third most significant barrier in Asia. The discussion also explored whether regulators should play a more active role in setting expectations for board–investor engagement, and what practical steps less mature markets could take over the next three to five years to strengthen their stewardship ecosystems, drawing on the relatively advanced models of Australia and Japan.
