ACGA Response to India Corporate Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026

2026-06-22

On 22 June, ACGA submitted comments on India’s Corporate Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 that is being reviewed by the Joint Parliamentary Committee of the Indian Parliament, the Lok Sabha. It proposes wide-ranging changes to the Companies Act, 2013, including measures to ease compliance, strengthen audit oversight, and modernise corporate governance practices. We broadly support the direction of the reforms, while offering recommendations in key areas such as shareholder meeting formats (highlighting concerns over virtual-only meetings), notice periods for shareholder meetings, safeguards around share buybacks, audit independence, and board governance to better align India’s framework with global best practices.
