On 28 March, Amar Gill, Secretary General of ACGA, and Stephanie Lin, Research Head for Korea and Singapore at ACGA, spoke at a media session in Seoul to discuss corporate governance reform developments in Korea.

During the session, Gill highlighted concerns over Korea’s corporate governance challenges, stating, “Korea's global companies have continued to grow, but valuation has stagnated or declined due to corporate governance issues.” He also underscored the need for better alignment between government initiatives, emphasizing, “The linkage and coordination between the administration's policy and the legislative activities of the legislature, value-up and boost-up, should be made. It is important to prepare incentives such as tax benefits to encourage companies to participate.”

Lin addressed the ongoing conflicts of interest between controlling and minority shareholders, particularly in major management decisions such as mergers and acquisitions and spin-offs. She stressed the importance of board accountability, stating, “This conflict can be resolved only when the board of directors is aware that the interests of general shareholders must be considered.”
