42nd Annual Conference of IOSCO - Montego Bay, Jamaica, May 14-18, 2017

2017-05-14

The 42nd Annual Conference of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) took place from May 14-18, 2017, in Montego Bay in Jamaica. IOSCO members meet every year at the Annual Conference to discuss important issues related to world securities and futures markets. The Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) is one of four regional committees constituted by IOSCO to focus on issues relating to securities regulation in a specific region.

One of the issues discussed at this year's APRC meeting was the topic of dual-class shares. ACGA Secretary General, Jamie Allen, was invited to be the opening speaker at an APRC session on May 14. His presentation, “Dual-class Shares in Asia: Unsuitable for Public Markets”, highlighted the negative impact Singapore’s proposal would have around the region and sparked a lively Q&A session. Other speakers included Hong Kong’s SFC, MAS from Singapore and Japan’s FSA. This was a great opportunity for ACGA to speak directly to a gathering of Asia’s regulators.
