ACGA and the PRI hosted the last webinar out of the three-part series webinars on Corporate Governance in Asia, with each focusing on a specific country or region including China, Southeast Asia and India.

The last webinar, titled "Corporate Governance in India: What Investors Need to Know" was hosted on 7 September 2021. The last session explored the outlook for corporate governance in India in 2021 and beyond.

Topics discussed included:

  • The extent to which regulatory reforms in the market are facilitating a cultural shift towards better governance models. Do we see promising trends on board independence and effectiveness?
  • If the new extensive requirements on corporate sustainability disclosure will stand the test of time and eventually contribute to better board preparedness on sustainability topics.
  • Whether the stewardship codes for institutional investors have strengthened engagement and voting in the market, and what are some the unique challenges local and foreign investors face in building the momentum for change?
  • Whether and how the pandemic has affected governance issues including shareholders’ ability to participate at AGMs.
