2nd IFRS Workshop, Hong Kong

12 March 2018

In conjunction with Nomura Research Institute and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), ACGA is supporting the 2nd User Workshop on IFRS Financial Statements in Hong Kong on Monday, March 12, 2018.

Topic 1 - The new IASB paper on Disaggregation & Aggregation of Accounts

Keynote: Mr. Takatsugu Ochi, Board Member, International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), London (by video)

This issue touches upon an area of concern to ACGA in recent years, namely the low level of disclosure around operating expenses in some company accounts in the region. We believe the relevant IFRS standard is not always being interpreted in the spirit intended and that some issuers are aggregating disparate expenses under broad categories that should be separated, with limited narrative as to what the numbers mean. Part of the discussion will focus on the evolving issue of materiality in the context of financial reporting and how disclosure could be improved.

Topic 2: “HKICPA Research on Valuations in Group Reorganisations”

HKICPA staff will present findings from their recent research on this issue in Hong Kong and is seeking investor input on what information is useful for investment decision-making.

The event takes place between 16.00 and 17.30 at HKICPA Boardroom, 37/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai.
