CG Watch 2016 - Malaysia Findings

On March 6, 2017, ACGA met separately with the Securities Commission and Bursa Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur to explain the findings of our "CG Watch 2016" report. Jamie Allen, ACGA Secretary General, and ACGA specialist consultant Ben McCarron presented an overview of the region and then highlighted specific issues and reform priorities for Malaysia. These included:

  1. Don’t adopt dual class shares!
  2. Improve CG disclosure - remuneration, board evaluation.
  3. Think about sustainability strategically and emphasise material issues in reporting.
  4. Rethink the definition of independent director to ensure that directors are genuinely independent.
  5. Think about enforcement-related disclosure from a user perspective.
  6. Address public governance.
  7. Renew the CG strategic roadmap.
